Sustainable Energy
The institute is committed to the development of efficient processes for the production of energy from renewable sources and with a low environmental impact that contribute to the development of a “biorefinery” idea in line with the sustainable development goals (bioeconomy). There are many projects that aim at decarbonisation in the energy sector through the enhancement of biomass and waste by-products from the agri-food and forestry sectors for the production of biofuels, both through chemical and microbiological approaches; at the same time there are other activities aimed at the production of biomass for energy purposes that contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
- Design, synthesis and characterization of new catalysts and catalytic processes for the production of green hydrogen;
- Biofuels and energy carriers from sustainable chemical and microbiological approaches;
- Carbon capture and valorization
- Technologies for the conversion of biomass into energy (biorefinery for energy purposes).
