Dr. Fabio Arturo Iannotti, a researcher at our Institute (Pozzuoli), as the winner of an international competitive grant. Dr. Iannotti will be the PI of a research project aimed at exploring the potential involvement of the intestinal microbiota as well as the endocannabinoid system in neurocognitive deficits associated with the development and progression of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The Dutch foundation “Duchenne Parent Project” is financing the study. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most frequent and severe of the rare diseases affecting musculoskeletal tissue. As if that were not enough, the comorbidity of this pathology affects many different organs including the brain. However, what makes this disease incurable to date is precisely the lack of understanding of many of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the development and severity of symptoms – explains Dr. Iannotti -.
