Raffaele Morrone
Experience & Activities
He graduated in Biological Sciences at the University “Federico II” of Naples in 1983. Since 1984 he has been an employee of the National Research Council, at first with a technical role and since 2001 as a researcher. Initially his research activity concerned the isolation and characterization of natural substances of marine origin. The biosynthetic pathways and their role in the organisms of origin have been determined for some isolated metabolites. Later his interest was turned to the use of biocatalysts in organic synthesis and in this context his activity was focused on:
preparation of enantiomerically pure organometallic compounds;
enantiomeric separation of principles of pharmaceutical interest,;
development of biocatalytic methodologies for efficient resolution / preparation of active principles of chiral and non-chiral acids;
recovery of substances with high added value from food waste using biocatalytic procedures.
